This was a wbc ordered mandatory, purse bid. Mares & donaire are both champs. they should wait out their contracts then fight at 122.5 lbs and no sanctioning fees and they can take in more $$$$$.winner has leverage for future promotional contract.

        Anyone surprised?
Is that really what Arum said?

I believe his direct quote from yesterday was "we aren't interested in working with Golden Boy"

So who is to blame, ahem. What do you work for Top Rank PR?

Oscar said exactly the same thing as Arum.

Both companies are happy with the status quo, but somehow one company is good and the other is evil?...yeah ok.

Oscar is full of shtttt...and some of ya'll have some selective short term memory. When Arum co-promoted DLH VS Pacquiao, ya'll remember what Oscar was talking afterwards? He turned into a heel to criticize Arum, then arum's team, then claimed Pacquaio was on something. Now show me what Arum did to Oscar to piss him off...oh right there's the Mayweather factor and this exactly around the time they (GBP) start promoting Mayweather's fights. This is around the time when Manny VS Floyd started being talked about, this is around the time the whole PED talk started..Oscar says he'd consider stepping aside for a fee for some of his boxers..really then why just not do it for this fight..Arum already said he's willing to pay you..but no..let me talk about "Some other boxer, just not this one". Like who else does he have in his stable worth negotiating over? Seriously..none of his other boxers really affects unifying belts for himself or top rank besides mayweather. But of course folks forget to revisit history and see why Bob wouldn't want to work with Oscar. Keep in mind Oscar had nothing but praise for Bob up until he suckered Mayweather into giving him a $72 million dollar payday.

for me, GP is the one willing to make compromises, TP is just a stubborn mutha****a. arum's old anyway, once he's out the picture, the two promotional companies can start pairing up their fighters. till then, we just have to live with matches like arce-donaire, rios-pacquiao etc etc

Actually, no. They didn't say the same thing.

Bob Arum said point blank that "We have no interest in working with Golden Boy."

This was after Richard Schaeffer said he’d be willing to talk and work out a deal with Top Rank in order to get the fight made.

Actually that's only part of what he said, he said we'd pay them for their fighters services. How hard is it to not be the big name in an event when the other guy has the bigger star and it's your fighter who wants to fight him.

Mares is the first ever home-grown champion for Golden Boy, they built him up from scratch. But now that he has hit the big time you want them to just step aside and let Bob Arum reap the benefits?

Why is it so hard for Arum to just co-promote with them?
