Cotto quit??? The man was getting hit with bricks!!! What was he suppose to do? Go out like McClellan? There are some real dumb asses on boxingscene. I've been watching fights for 25 years and have seen a many fighter really quit. But under the conditions that both Cotto and McClellan were facing, that's not quitting. A coward quits because mentally or physically they're not strong enough to endure a certain level of pressure that they are being exposed to. Gerald was facing a near fatal medical situation and Cotto was facing a brutal criminal attack. All bets are off in both situations.

**** off with this 'he quit' nonsense you bunch of morons. He was a warrior out and out. He had already been battered into brain damage at that stage. The original man that entered the ring wasn't even there anymore by round ten, he all but died in there and then some bums on an internet forum who probably never set foot in the ring accuse him of quitting. lol just lolLast edited by Daddy T; 12-01-2011, 09:27 AM.

Technically, yes he quit.
But is Gerald a quitter? Absolutely not. He's a warrior who said before hand and showed in the ring he was prepared to die.
You quit the basketball team. You quit your job. You quit smoking. Victor Ortiz and Roberto Duran quit.
When you're literally facing death and can no longer fight, you simply lose.Last edited by BoxingGenius27; 12-01-2011, 09:47 AM.

They were physically unable to continue being competitive, period. Now if Cotto got hit in the 1st or 2nd round and took a knee/10 count (when his was still fresh) then I call THAT quitting.

Fighting until you are physically unable to continue. Period.
I think Cotto quit but I think that was more than justified, does that make him weak... Hell no! For Miguel, his health and his family are more import than his job.Last edited by VoodooChild; 12-01-2011, 11:40 AM.

See, I didn't want to have to do this, but due to a few non knowledgable boxing fans running around NSB acussing fighters like Cotto of quitting, I was forced to do this.
If you re-watch this fight and compare it to the Cotto fight, it's almost two identical fights. Cotto was stopped in the 11th and McClellan in the 10th. Both took 2 knees and were called QUITTERS!!
See, it's fake boxing fans like this that give the sport a bad name. If you haven't been in a fight, or don't know what it's like to be in that situation, then you need to think twice about calling someone a quitter and having no idea what you're talking about.
McClellan and Cotto both fought til they couldn't fight anymore. Learn the difference.
Just my thoughts.

McClellan carried on until he was on the verge of death none of us would do that, he was clearly having trouble from the first round onwards he was blinking and was telling his corner he didnt feel right.
Blame his corner for not throwing in the towel earlier. Blame his management for having him fight at 168 when he was probable a natural cruiserweight.
But the fact is he quit and for good reason
