  • iF Cotto fights Mayweather, who should train him?

cotto looked good with his new trainer. landed combinations, gave different angles, stayed off the ropes, and showed good inside work when necessary. but then again, it was against margarito and who DOESNT land on margartio.

im sure the new trainer (i cant remember his name at all!) is a good trainer, but to beat mayweather, you need a special kind of gameplan. do you think cotto should hook back up with steward for a mayweather fight? it seems with stewards style, cotto might have a better chance against mayweather (good jab, doesnt get too low, applies good ammount of pressure)

Honestly, I think the Pedro Diaz pair up works well. He utilized the jab, moved effectively and showed good defense. He changed his strategy when he got tired and worked on the inside, clinched and turned him. Things he didn't do the first time.

I'm sure that Pedro has the boxing credentials to make an effective gameplan. His amateurs are all high in boxing IQ.

The keys for beating Mayweather is to stop that straight right hand and lead left hook he loves. Any fighter is going to need an effective and crisp jab that'll prevent him from getting that lead off. He'll have to double-triple jab to throw off his defense and then work the body when opened. It'll be hard though no matter what because Mayweather's agility and speed match or exceed any fighter he fights. The overall key is to not let him get set in his defensive posture which allows him to dictate when he'll lead or counter. Double-triple jabs from the outside and an effective inside game when he gets close, enough that'll throw off his timing. Hard task

Exactly, it's not so much that Margarito was done but Cotto did all the right things in that bout, he fought extremely smart.

No need to switch coaches again. It doesn't really matter anyway. God himself could train Cotto and he wouldn't beat Floyd.
