  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather-Canelo Drills De La Hoya-Floyd Gate Record

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has revealed that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) will generate a record-cracking gate figure of over $19.5 million dollars. The number shatters the previous record of $18,419,200 - set in 2007 by Oscar De La Hoya vs. Mayweather.

Mayweather-Canelo actually broke the record last month. Schaefer had previously announced that Mayweather-Canelo broke the record with a figure of at least $18,647,000 - which Schaefer expected to rise around the $19 million mark - but once the numbers were calculated it became clear the overall gate figure was even larger than everyone had anticpated.

Isn't this just an indication that they should have gone with a much larger arena?

MGM holds what 14,000 for boxing events? Doesn't Thomas and Mack Center hold closer to 20,000?

$75 dls, for HD not bad, better than to pay $2500 to $3000 live gate......waited to long 300 & 500 were gone fast

this fight will break the all time record for # of streams. i'd say conservative estimate of 2.9 million to 3.5 million streams.

Casual fans are making the sport alive and kicking. This is not possible with only streamers watching. It will die in no time.
