  • Comments Thread For: Muhammad Ali's Gloves Go on Display in Tokyo Exhibition

An autographed pair of Muhammad Ali's gloves went on display in an exhibition of boxing memorabilia at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall starting Saturday.

In addition to the gloves of the legendary heavyweight champion, the exhibit has gloves belonging to Masao Oba, the WBA flyweight champion who died in a car accident in 1973. Ali's gloves adorn one corner of the exhibition area near the entrance.

They want items to be changed every few months? So, that means they'll get rid of his gloves? That would be stupid. They have something very special there.

What nonsense. You't think that the gloves could get up and do a song and dance act, like Fred Astaire. It don't even menton which fight, so the guy had them on his saintly hands for anything from 20 minutes too maybe an hour. I wonder what people see -apart from red leather gloves.......?? Maybe some of Henry Cooper's blood in on them.....that should be worth something extra.......

There were training mitts and gloves in my old boxing club in Dublin which had been used and given (not even "presented", just given) by Tommy Burns' sparring partner who was sick and left behind (He lived the rest of his life in Dublin, and he'd come down now and then) when they had to sneak out of Dublin in the middle of the night with a police escort. Burns had knocked out the Irish "champion" Jem Roche early in the first round and the mob were wanting to lynch him. Burns likely had used them too at some time.

We didn't sit and "adore" them...we used them on the bags.

Perhaps if they'd jumped up and hit Napoleon or Julius Caesar on the nose.......

This post is both enlightening and total nonsense. I don't know what to think.
