Clinching in general is underrated if you are talking about winning fights. It can drastically change what a guy can accomplish in the ring if they are willing to go there.

Lots of people hate it, but when it comes to playing to win got to do what you got to do~

you do what ever it takes to win and what ever you can get away with to win

a lot of fighters today just can't fight inside and they have horrible Defense...A LOT OF THE FIGHTERS THAT GET THE MOST HYPE FROM FANS AND MEDIA TODAY!

lets be honest...JuanMa was NEVER THAT GREAT, your promoter can only protect you for so long, then eventually the fans will start to demand that you fight someone GOOD or they will stop having interest...JuanMa would have gotten KILLED by Gamboa YEARS AGO but Bob Arum protected JuanMa and desperately wanted to make him a star...but he just doesn't have the skills to back up the "STAR POTENTIAL"

there are times when you need to fight and there are times when you need to survive. getting knocked out cold bcuz you are too stupid to give yourself a chance to recover isnt being tough, its just ******ed.

i agree using clinching as part of your strategy even when you arent hurt john ruiz style is some ol' bullshit. but if you get hurt you gotta do what you gotta do, anyone can get hurt and anyone can get knocked out. to let someone finish you off when you dont have to is just stupid, clinching so you can gather yourself and fight back when you are ready doesnt make you less of a tough guy.

I'll take making the fight ugly at the whining of the fans over getting KO'ed cold and being called washed up for the next year by "the fans"

Clinching is part of the game. Another part of the game is countering clinches... If someone knows how to fight out of the clinch you can find yourself in a world of hurt with your arm pinned under theirs... Or find yourself on the end of some nice inside punches before an after a clinch.

              The ref is important too.

Overall I think fighting through the clinch is the mark of a good inside fighter.
