  • Who Is The Lineal Heavyweight Champion Of The World?

I've saw 2 different timelines, one stopped at Lennox Lewis (not sure but might have been made in 2004 and not updated!) and the other had Vitali Klitschko as the lineal champion. In the comments below the 2nd timeline people were arguing that Wladimir was the true Lineal champion. It has to be one of them as they hold every heavyweight championship between them. Which one is the recognised Lineal Heavyweight Champion Of The World?

Wasn't it vacated since Lewis retired? He retired on a win so it would be impossible for anyone to become the lineal champ after that.

Wlad is the Ring champ so he is the heavyweight champion anyway, that's all that matters. He is in effect the "lineal" champ.

Wlad is the lineal heavyweight champion.

Wlad not only holds the ring magazine title ( which normally represents the lineal champ in the specific division) but he also holds every major title besides the WBC title.

According to Cliff Rold, Wladimir is the Lineal Champ which is in line with the Ring's lineage.

Wlad ...and he fought the number 2 so even if it was vacated he would of offically become the Lineal Champ

Exactly, It's Wlad. Lineal's been reset before homies.....Lennox is not the only fella to retire off a win.

True, and the fighter can vacate when they move up in weight. Cliff Rold's lineal champs is in line with the Ring now in all weight classes. For sometime, he considered Zsolt Erdei as the lineal champ while the Ring had Joe Calzaghe as the lineal champ at light heavyweight.

Erdei was the lineal champ. Whether that meant anything or not is debatable, but the state of fact was what it was. When he vacated the WBO and moved up, that lineage had to be considered broken because that was his only tangible link and, at the time, there was no indication of an imminent return to Light Heavy.

As to Wlad, when he beat Chagaev, that meant a win over the next best available fighter and a win over every reigning beltholder not named Vitali (Chagaev was WBA titlist right up to the Wlad fight even if that was not a unification bout). Vitali won his current belt off someone who Wlad beat to get to his IBF shot so, inherently, Vitali's belt is paper.

Wlad is THE Heavyweight champ. everyone else is just paying a sanctioning fee for an honorarium.
