  • Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao and Drug Testing Four Years Later

It was late into the fall season of 2009. Manny Pacquiao had just vanquished Miguel Cotto and was well on his way to unanimously winning the Fighter of the Year Award across the board after nabbing titles in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions in sensational fashion.

Immediately after bludgeoning and stopping Cotto in 12 rounds, a contingent of Pacquiao fans at the MGM Arena were in unison in chants of “we want Floyd!”

Pacquiao’s star was never brighter, and the boxing world was buzzing behind the exploits of the Southeast Asian jackhammer of a slugger who was tearing through the lower weight classes since arriving in the US scene in 2001

Didn't realize golden boy has dropped vada because their fighter can't pass the tests. Pretty shameful.

      Biased

      Nice writing Dennis but biased

You did not at all touch on the rediculous purse split that was demanded by Mayweather, he was either too greedy or just wanted to price himself out knowing he did not want to fight this guy.
Who was Mayweather to dictate the rules anyway?? Jail has definately tamed him, people inside have definately hit it home to him that he was SCARED to lose to Paquiao.Your writing is biased in Mayweather's favour. Yes he is gifted but nowhere as good as he makes himself out to be.

Golden Boy lost a lot of money due to their high stable of cheats/cancelled fights so they had to drop VADA. Now fighters like Broner downright refuse to make a fight whatsoever if VADA is requested by the opponent. When you have guys like Love and Bey Jr still popping up dirty even without Vada you know it's a problem.

the first time around floyd agreed to the fight 50/50 split but then the drug testing became the first issue then thats when everything else came along and fell apart, drug testing was the very first issue brought up and everyone said floyd was scared for asking for testing for years and years now other fighters do it and they get praised.

Mayweather won the "cold war" he had with Pac. He is officially the highest paid athlete in the sport, the pound for pound number one fighter in the sport, and remains undefeated. While Pacquiao (still a success) is reeling from a devastating knockout loss and decreasing stock value in the sport. He has also become a proponent of olympic style blood testing after avoiding it 4 years ago!

Instead of praising actual wins they praise winning psychological battles.

Taking random drug tests is good for boxing.
Manny still wants to strike back.
