  • Boxers who won the title in the opponents back yard.

    A very difficult feat.

Can you name some and perhaps the circumstances?

The first one that came to mind was James Toney in Davenport Iowa.
It was going to be a homecoming party for Michael Nunn.

I never thought about that as it was in the same country. Good call though. He really spoiled Nunn's homecoming.

Oh, I was thinking that hometown situation. It is even harder to travel to another country an win.

Azumah Nelson knocked out Wilfredo Gomez for the WBC title in Puerto Rico. It was a decisive win too.

Still Toney faced a highly patriotic crowd.

The first one that came to my mind was .... Well I'll wait with that one, but the second was Carlos Monzon travelling to Italy to grab the belt off of Nino Benvenuti.

              judah - spinks
              pacquiao - sasakul
              bradley - witter

you pretty much have to KO the champ at home or dominate and hope that they give you a SD.

Good call. The great Azumah. What a fighter he was.

Yes. It not easy to bring back the belt from the opponents backyard and it is for the select few to do it via decision.

Sanders went to Germany to beat Wlad.

Haye went to France to beat Mormeck.

Salido went to PR to beat Lopez twice.

Montiel and Gonzalez both beat Hasegawa in Japan.

Castellejo went to Germany to beat Sturm.

Not really big fights, only one of them was for a legit world title. But these popped to mind quickly.
