is this credible? i remember seeing this in some article last week. but it seemed like the author simply made a mistake since he mentioned "detached retina" but never mentioned "cracked orbital bone." now, that mistake has gone viral, seems to me.

wouldn't they have diagnosed a detached retina immediately after the fight?

i'll wait until marg or garcia says something until i believe it.

Antonio Margarito is not retiring from boxing

Last night during the transmission of the ESPN Radio show A Los Golpes, the ‘Tornado de Tijuana’, Antonio Margarito, reported to quell rumors about his supposed retirement motivated by a detachment of retina left it on his last fight against Manny Pacquiao.

After the bout in which Antonio Margarito received a beating, he suffered a skull fracture, specifically in the right orbital bone that required surgery. Beyond that, he did not suffer any other injury, much less the detached retina that was handled in the specialized media.

“I have not seen such news but I have been told that I had a detached retina and that I am going to retire. But those are just speculations, my retina is not detached.
I have an appointment with Bob Arum’s doctor on Thursday. I am in the doctor hands. The only thing is that I cannot fight in September because the doctor has not given me green light and that is why I am going to see the specialist on Thursday.” Clarified “Toño” Margarito in the radio show.

The Tijuana fighter will travel tomorrow (march 19th) to California, to see the specialist and right there he will know if he can return to boxing in 2011.

“100% sure there is no retinal detachment. I keep training. I have been sparring because the doctor said: OK, start your sparring and all that. Everything is fine with my eye. There is no retinal detachment, it is right and everything is fine” He added.

Earlier this year it was handled September as a tentative date for the return of Margarito, and this would be in a rematch against the Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, but the doctor advised him to rest all this year to continue with the medical studies.

“That is why I am waiting too, because health comes first. I am in the doctor hands, but I really want that he gives me green light and say to me: you can continue in boxing, you can fight, because I am willing to return to boxing. But for now I cannot because I am in the doctor hands, and he has not given me green light to return.” He finished.

^Interesting. I wouldn't mind him disappearing from boxing, but I'd like to see Cotto avenge his loss. Then hopefully they both retire after that fight and winner won't rematch Manny.

This means, Cotto VS Margarito ain't gonna happen.

That said, its pretty ****ed up, the man wanted to make a comeback to erase the demons of the past, and instead, he gets more than he bargained for.

I hope NOT. Boxing will be a cleaner sport without his kind.

Not to sound bad but if Margarito really did have those plaster inserts in his wraps for the Cotto fight, he kind of deserves this.
