You always hear fans complaining about the best fighters not fighting each other and trying to protect their undefeated records.
Here, we had a rare occasion where the top 2 fighters at 140, both young, prime undefeated fighters were facing off. This was the first unification bout between 2 undefeated Americans in 24 years. Unfortunately, the fight generated little interest and the event flopped and seems to be forgotten years later. What went wrong?
Was the location of Pontiac, Michigan a mistake?
Was the fight made too early in their careers where there fanbases were small?
Promotion? Poor style matchup?
Or some combination off all of the above?
