Mexicans support of Boxing is astonishing. Boxing does huge numbers in Germany, Russia, and Ukraine when Klitschkos fight and Pacquiao obviously huge in Asia when he fights but Mexico watches Boxing every week with amazing tv ratings not just one fighter or one fight a year but multiple fights and even women boxing.

I'm going to add a few points here.

1- Pacquaio is not huge in Asia, he's huge in one country. The biggest market for Asia is a super power country like China or a rich economic country like South Korea. The Phipinees just don't have that kind of marketing power China have. Just look at Yao Ming the basketball player, that guy wasn't even a top 10 player and China's marketing ability made him into a global star. Just imagine if there was a middleweight chinese Pacquaio. Manny's country just don't have the resources to fully market Manny outside of Mexico, the US, and his own country.

Nobody care or even heard of Pacquaio in most Asian countries.

2- Boxing is huge in Europe right now mainly because it is VERY VERY easy for Europe to have a #2 sport. What that means is Europe's #1 sport by far
is Soccer. Soccer is the most watched sport in Europe and the most watched in the world outside of the United States. There is a MASSIVE gap between #1 Soccer in Europe and 'the rest'. So any sport could easily fill up the void for #2. It's not like in the States where there is the NFL,NBA, NHL, MLB, Nascar etc.
In Europe there's Soccer and 'the rest'. Boxing is now taking over 'the rest'
Much easier to do in Europe, because the competition that comes after soccer is very weak. Basketball or Boxing? In Europe that's a legit question, the fan bases are the same.


It's just easier to market boxing in places where there's only ONE super sport to compete with.

In the United States there is far too many sports for boxing to make a successful comeback anytime soon.

Damn people love them some Canelo. I think it has to do with the fact that he has no famous father or family member who helped make his career for him, the Mexican audience respects him more IMO. (That was until his last 2 fights) Now even my father-in-law see's that he's being protected. He needs to keep the fans on his side and fight guys in his division.

Let's not forget how big Canelo is in Mexico.. He only drew 4 thousand fans in his last fight in Mexico against Cintron in a 40 thousand seat stadium..

Japan is a traditional boxing market with stabilished good ratings all the weeks since years.Also fighters like Koki Kameda do record numbers.Indonesia is a fast growing market for boxing and Chris John is a very big personality there.

Nah, its got more to do with the Network he fights in......Canelo fights in Televisa...the majority of people outside the metropolitan areas of Mexico only watch Televisa and Televisa has marketed Canelo very well, he's their cash cow... people will watch TV azteca over Televisa if Pacquiao is fighting though...because everybody knows Pacquiao and now Marquez has gotten some fame as well...Chavez Jr and Travieso are the other big ratings getters for boxing.All of the big draws in Mexico fight in TvAzteca except Canelo, so Televisa focuses only on promoting him...

Also, IBOPE's numbers are shady at best...Televisa is probably paying them off to inflate their numbers across the board.

In Mexico City, Canelo couldnt sell ****ing 5000 tickets , he's an idol only in places where Televisa has major influence

He's also big in Japan, which is a big market for boxing, they have championships in packed arenas on a regular basis. Japanese boxing promoters are the richest promoters in Asia. Rich enough to get Foreman and Tyson to fight over there.
