  • (Video)What's Next for Saul Alvarez? Breaking Down Canelo's Options

Great video. Watch the entire video it's worth it. What option do you think is best for Canelo? Discuss.

He is telling Canelo to duck deserving fighters and be a big chicken. Then he says fight the winner of Martinez vs. Chavez at 160. Just horrible advice. Canelo should act like a true champion and fight Lara or Molina or Trout. He can beat those guys. Stay at 154 and be the best there. Sure Cotto is a great fight but Cotto wants more time off. Why does he bring up Mundine? No one else is talking about Mundine. He is not ranked and not deserving and not even in the picture. Sure, fight Martinez if he comes to your natural weight of 154. Don't fight Chavez and be out weighed by 15 or more lbs. in the ring. Just be the king at 154. Don't go to 160 unless it feels right.

Canelo should either fight Lara or Trout on regular Showtime or CBS like they were talking about. Or he should fight Cotto or Kirkland on PPV in October.

Dwyer is correct onlosing at this point is at least a 1 year setback when he's on the precipice of a super-stardom, but his opinion on the matchups he should avoid is terrible. He's underestimating Alvarez' ability and/or overrating Molina, Trout, Mundine, and Lara's ability (as most people are).

Canelo is better than people think he is and he's eventually going to prove it. Alvarez TKO's Trout and Mundine; he decisions Molina in a grueling fight, but in clear and decisive fashion; and the Lara fight is a tossup, but Canelo has the tools to defeat him too (Canelo can exploit the same weaknesses Molina did (force Lara to lead, make him miss, and work Lara over, where he's weakest, on the inside)).

If I were Alvarez' manager or advisor, he would fight a Trout, Quintana, or K-9 in September; Cotto in December; and Mayweather in May. Fighting the winner of Chavez-Martinez is unnecessary at this point. Cotto's easily the better option.

The WBC ranks Cotto #1, Kirkland#2, Lara#3 and Trout is an undefeated champion so all of these options would be great. If Canelo can't beat these guys now then I doubt he beats them in a year or two. I think he can beat them all now and he should fight them now. Sure those are dangerous fights but good champions are suposed to take dangerous fights.
