  • Comments Thread For: Juanma vs Salido Post-Fight Riot is Being Investigated

A serious incident occurred on April 16 in Bayamon when Juan Manuel Lopez lost his unbeaten record, and the WBO featherweight belt, by way of an eight round TKO to Mexico's Orlando Salido. The incident could lead to heavy sanctions because of a post-fight riot where several individuals showered the ring with different objects - including bottles of water - which caused injuries to Guaynabo Mayor Hector O'Neill, and the adviser to the Department of Recreation and Sport, Carlos 'Cidrita' Aponte.

Yes the ref may have let it go on but at the end of the day, JUANMA was hurt and it wasnt a matter of being hurt for 30 seconds or 1 minute...he was going on 2-3 straight rounds and it was only a matter of time before Salido put him to sleep completely with the pressure he was putting on Juanma. Plus, Juanma's lack of clinching, weak legs or getting away from trouble wasnt helping his case either.
The fans throwing the bottles in the ring are idiots who acted ignorantly and showed to be sore losers. Period. All it takes is for a handful of clowns to make us look bad while hosting a fight.

No one strikes Al Bernstein with a bottle and gets away with it.

ref was right to stop it

Ramirez jr was right to stop it, did no one see Juanma's head snapping back, forget his weak, instinctive replies, and he was stiff-legged....sure sign of a hurt fighter...maybe getting hurt worse.

my boy in law school from PR said that boxing is taken very seriously as a gentleman's sport (along with **** fighting) - so I imagine this type of hooliganism is unacceptable even with the intense, heated, and legendary PR/Mexican rivalry. i still love the intensity!

Sore loosers thats what it is .... Juanma is a joke a bum and a heartless fool. Salido was going to put him out regardless if the ref stopped it or not. so quit crying, or they just mad cuz 2 mexicans beat their champions in their own backyard one of them quit on his knees and the other got worked.
