  • Comments Thread For: Half of Khan-Garcia Fans Bought Tickets, Half Got In Free

The July 14 card featuring the junior-welterweight unification bout between Amir Khan and Danny Garcia brought in a total attendance of 6,511 — with about half of those fans buying their tickets and the other half getting in for free.

A total of 3,147 tickets were sold, another 3,364 were given away, and 737 tickets went unsold, according to figures provided by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. [Click Here To Read More]

Sad thing is this probably makes you a top 10 draw in the US. There's Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, Alvarez, Chavez, JMM. Who else does over 400k gates?

Absolutely, but Khan wasn't going to fight that close to his opponents hometown, considering what happened in DC.

Golden Boy seems hell bent of making Khan fight in Vegas, instead of putting him in markets where he could draw (NYC, AC, etc...). Basically, if Floyd or Pac isn't involved, it's not going to be a big ticket seller in Sin City.

Promos (For the Cotto-Mayorga fight, the MGM Grand was offering a package where if you booked a room at the MGM, 2 tickets to the fight came with it), high rollers that drop big coin in casinos, etc...

US in general it's thriving everywhere else. The sport has taken a backseat to other sports.
