  • Comments Thread For: Roman Martinez vs. Juan Carlos Burgos Likely Up Next

The next step for the newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion, Roman Martinez (26-1-1, 16KOs), is likely a mandatory defense against Juan Carlos Burgos (30-1, 20KOs), according to Martinez's promoter Peter Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing.

Martinez won the title last Saturday in Las Vegas with a close twelve round split decision over Miguel Beltran Jr. Martinez-Burgos should take place in the next 90 days.

Burgos will do the same thing to Martinez as he did to Cruz.

Umm Cristobal Cruz gave Burgos all he could handle... Martinez KO's Burgos. And I don't think Burgos is as tough as Beltran.

Where is this fight going to be? Martinez will be hard to beat anywhere, but worse in Puerto Rico. Burgos lost in Japan, he should have won, maybe he doesn't travel well.

Burgos takes this, Martinez's chin looked suspect in his last fight!

Suspect? Hell no. He took big old bombs and was never down once.

Martinez is tall, rangy, hits hard, fights with heart but he is way too easy to hit to sustain at the upper levels. His defence simply does not exist. If he had a solid defence, he'd go much further. He takes FLUSH shots and gets his head snapped back often...that does not bode well for longevity. But to beat him, you have to either out-slick him or out-will him.
