  • Comments Thread For: Team Canelo Waiting, and Hoping, Cotto Takes Deal

Junior middleweight contender Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) is waiting, and hoping, that former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 21KOs) agrees to fight him in the main event of a Showtime Pay-Per-View card on March 8th. Golden Boy Promotions offered Cotto a $10 million dollar deal to take the fight. The other option for Cotto is a chance to capture his fourth divisional title against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, but the money involved in that deal is reportedly only worth $5 million dollars in terms of the guarantee.

either fight is good one. cotto has been around and is a great fighter headed to the hall of fame. at this stage of his career. anytime he enters the ring it needs to be lucrative. fight alvarez for that $10 million bro.

Canelo loses his last fight. Cotto win his last fight. WTF! Why fight Canelo? If anything Cotto should make Canelo fight for Top Rank first and avenge his lost to Floyd before getting the shot!

It's gonna be his last payday at the top though. Either guy stops him IMO.

i have a feeling cotto will go with the canelo fight because 1. it's a more winnable fight for him and 2. the money will be good for him and his family after he retires

of course beating sergio at 160 will do MUCH MORE for his legacy than beating a 23 yr old hype job, but i think at this point cotto is focused on his family and his future after he retires...

I expect him to take a lot of punishment in either fight. He might fight again to go out on a win against a lesser opponent, but it won't be at the elite level.
