  • Comments Thread For: Cotto's Adviser Discusses Return, Top Rank, HBO, More

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30KOs) will officially return to the ring on October 5th. Cotto will return to HBO for the first time since the May 2012 decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Cotto's last fight, a decision loss to Austin Trout, was televised by Showtime.

According to several source, the frontrunner to fight Cotto is junior middleweight contender Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16KOs) in a venue located in Florida.

Gaby Peñagarícano, Cotto's attorney and adviser, confirmed to BoxingScene.com that Rodriguez was under serious consideration, but nothing was signed. The fight is likely heading to Florida, says Peñagarícano, in Miami or Orlando. Making his return in New York is not a possibility because Madison Square Garden is closed on October 5th and Barclays Center has an exclusive deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Evengy Gradovich is the IBF featherweight champion, not Dib and if Gradovich gets past his mandatory Munoz at the end of the month then Gradovich and Dib will have a rematch as Dib is revoking a rematch clause so cross the Velez - Dib fight out not happening on october 5th.

Not bad IMO. Get back in the winning column and HBO will throw money at Cotto.

I still can't believe he's going to have Roach in his corner. What a strange turn of events.

Cotto is his own boss he should remain a free agent and do what ever he wants to do. Props to him and best of luck with Roach in his corner.

When they mention the Miami location I keep thinking about the Freitas vs Barrios fight and how wild and alive that crowd was. Florida seems like a nice neutral location for Rican and a Dominican
