  • Comments Thread For: Vanes Martirosyan To Return on April 6 Card in Macau

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has confirmed that junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (32-0-1, 20KOs) will return on April 6th on the undercard of the big event being planned on April 6th in Macau. The main event will feature the pro debut of Olympic gold medal winner Zou Shiming, who recently signed a contract with Top Rank. BoxingScene reported last week that super bantamweight contender Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. will see action on the card, and Brian Viloria will defend his WBA/WBO flyweight belts against Juan Estrada.

This fight, Martirosyan vs Maciel, could be an eliminatory WBO. The winner against Baysangurov (who would make an optional defense vs Spanish Varón).

dont know who this maciel guy but at least hes ranked in the top 10 by the WBO, unlike Canelo's opponents... definitely sounds like an eliminator/tune up for a bout vs Baysangurov... wouldnt be surprised if that fight took place in Russia either, heavy Armenian population in Russia... eff the WBC, looks like Vanes has learned he would never have the opportunity to fight for that belt... good for him

Maciel has a very good chance here.

This card is shaping up pretty well. Big night for Top Rank I wonder if any of these fights make it to US TV. I doubt it though.

Maciel is decent. Vanes is just decent himself. Maciel could probably win.

The main event is going to be a two time Olympic gold medalist pro debut? So a cream of the crop amateur vs a greenhorn. Even if the lucky sacrifice has an amateur background it won't compare to Shiming's. To me this actually sounds like a terrible main event fight because its not going to be a fight, its 'we all know Shiming will win, just in what round'.

I would rather see TR do what GBP did with their Olympians and make Shiming the co-feature to a fan friendly fighter.

Vanes is a completely overrated waste of time. He is the classic big talking underachiever.

WOW. Marciel is a game fighter. I thought that they would've found some bum who just lost everything in one of the casinos.
