  • Heading to my 1st cash Texas Hold'em Tournament

So it's a $30 buy in for 11,000 chips. You can re-buy yourself back in as many times as you like in the 1st 1/2 hour. After that they have a buy in later where everybody can buy 11,000 chips to add to their current stack. Then it's play it out til its done.

    Anybody played this style before?.........Rockin'

Thats a pretty typical tournament structure. Should be fun. Where at, if you dont mind me asking?

Best piece of gambling advice ever: "DECISIONS, NOT OUTCOMES."

Dont sweat the lost hands, play right and in the long run statistics are your friend.

I might have......I have lost within half hour of the game so I did not know if these were the rules being used.

Good luck and hope you win really big!.

It doesnt matter. You could have 300 starting chips or 30000 starting chips, all thats revelant is how many BB (big blinds) you start off with and how fast do they move up.

Rockin, thats pretty typical of a Rebuy tourney, if this is your first time playing I would donkey it up during the Rebuy period and try to build a huge stack before they close rebuy;s. If you dont know what you are doing you wont survive in the tourney after the rebuys close because people will become tight and you will need to have extreme luck to have a chance at winning.

              Have fun!

if you stick around long enough you are going to experience awful beats

(situations where your opponent drew out of losing a pot with the inferior hand going in and ended up winning it on luck)

don't let them get to you.

i've never played cards in a casino in my life, but i used to play cash games all the time and got into online poker briefly before the fallout. if you get the right cards in the right situation you can beat anybody.

i'd suggest initially picking on people at the table who have no clue what they are doing
that's the easiest work. if you see somebody with a big stack or that has been making really good moves just stay away from him for now and try and get back at him when you have more chips or better yet, the best hand

if i were in your situation i'd try and start out very loose (making lots of bets)
and then tighten up later in the night
when you bet you'll still have the reputation of a loose player, even though you are only betting on good hands

its a very basic strategy, and it certainly wont fool everybody
but hey, why not give it a whirl right?

                and finally..

unless you're setting a trap or doing it deliberately you should never call. at least don't make it a habit
always raise. raise blinds to make people pay for the flop
raise or fold most of the people who bet into you.
unless the bet is the exact value you're willing to pay to see your next card, or to have your cards shown and see who wins the hand, do not simply call.
even if you're only doubling the bet.

                how many people are involved?
ie how much money are you gonna win ? hehe

                good luck hombre

GL. Sounds like a typical tourney with re buys and add ons. I played all the time in Puerto Rican casinos and did really well at tourneys and no limit hold em sit n go's. My advice is to focus on the psychological and statistical aspect of the game. Don't let macho bull**** or tilted vibes decide your moves. Oh and remember to bluff every once in a while.

                    All of this.

Definitely go balls to the wall during the rebuy period (assuming you have a few extra buy ins with you). That's the beauty of rebuy's. You can shove small-mid suited connectors, bust 3 people, and have a huge stack in the first level.
