I can see how judges sometimes give bad decisions, this has to be the vaguest term used on how to judge boxing. It seems everyone has their own interpretation especailly HBO announcers...

Who's controlling the action, the pace of the fight so to say..
Let's say you have a come forward pressure fighter, his job is to cut off the ring keep the pressure on and corner his opponent..This would be a pressure fighters interpretation of ring generalship..
A boxer wants to have time to think, time to use the ring to his advantage..Keep his opponent at bay and not take to much punishment..This would be a boxers way of showing ring generalship..
That's my take on it anyway..It's controlling the pace and or the action of the fight..

Guy that landed the most effective punches and won the round
You can't have better generalship and Lose the round, it doesn't make sense

It is the guy who is directing the action of the fight~ similar to what an actual general would do in battle.

ring generalship is actually an evaluation of who is controlling space.
the ring general dictates the nature of the action by controlling the location and the distance.
a boxer wants space, which he's got in the center of the ring, and an aggressor wants to shrink the ring by cutting it off.

it can be if you're landing the more meaningful punches on your bike, or putting the mustard on him before you run away, the way khan used to get away with before he hit the world class.
aggression is only as good as the landed punches it affords you.
