  • Comments Thread For: Dawson: Ward Turned Down 170, Insisted on Oakland

WBC light heavyweight champion "Bad" Chad Dawson (31-1) appeared on the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show to discuss his upcoming fight against WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward. The fight will be contested at the super middleweight weight limit of 168 pounds on September 8th and will be televised by HBO.

In a recent interview on The Boxing Lab, Andre Ward said that there weren't any egotiations for the fight to take place at a catchweight between 168 and 175 pounds. Dawson disagreed with Ward's statement and said that they asked for the fight to take place at 170 pounds.

If true about the weight, Andre is a moron. He should have fought him at a CW at least, if it was on the table.

If I was Ward I would have fought at 175, then he could have been a 2 weight champ.

If true that is some sucka stuff by Ward. I mean damn he can't go up 2lbs? I am of the belief that Ward can sell more tickets in Oakland than Dawson can sell in Hartford or whatever part of Conn. he from. More people will show up in Oakland than people would travel to the casino in Conn. Atlantic city would have been a good venue.

Hell truth be told I'm beyond mad the fight is on sept 8 cause i can't go!!!!

Ward should have fought him at 175, which would make him a 2 weight lineal champ.

I don't believe Dawson he insisted on coming down to 168 to protect his title at 175

not a fan of catchweights. dawson should have challenged him at 175. he shouldnt have said he would go to 168. but at least he is like he says he is, a true champion will fight anybody.

im not surprised ward wanted it at 168. he doesnt have to go up, but he could have gone to 175, took the title and went back to 168. and im not surprised it had to be in oakland. ward doesnt do away fights.

Dawson called out ward. Thats that.

                    - First i can say that its a sucka move on dawson for calling out guys smaller than you.

-Second- Dawson was the one starving for the fight so he has to come down and make it. Thats that.

-If ward was the one calling out dawson i would feel differently

-Dawson called him out and said he could make the weight so why is he behind the scence looking for a catchweight.

                    - As far as it being in Oakland: Where else is it going to be. Ward doesnt have much of a following and dawson has less than that so where are you gonna have the fight?

In conclusion this is a fight that didnt need to happen, that nobody was asking for except dawson, so guess what? He has to do whats needed to make the fight. Period.
