He slips and catches punches so subtly it's amazing. You very rarely saw Sr, get hit flush in his prime. Not until Oscar did I see him really get hit.
His defense was pretty good but nowhere near the level of roberto duran, duran had way better uppr body movement and was more accurate and fluid when throwing combinations plus he was a better inside fighter aand boxer. Duran was the best at it not chavez.

Dont bother. This is the same guy who said Marquez had a higher ring IQ than Mayweather and Hopkins. He gets drunk on Tecate before he starts posting.

Sr. had an underrated defense. Most classify him, as a come forward slugger. But for an inside fighter, that loved to take you into the pits of a dog fight, he came out relatively clean.

i don't think there's an offense-minded fighter in boxing history who has/had amazing defense anyway so i don't know what you're getting at.

The Laporte fight was amazing. Chavez had a great chin but if you actually watch his close fights, the man was great at catching shots and upper body movement.

I'm not saying he was Pernell Whitaker, just pointing out to people that say we like to "overrate" him are out of their minds.

His defense was much better than the averge Mexican, but still not that good. Most mexican FIGHTERS dont even know what the word defense means. They are come forward offensive power house machines. Thier whole game is about inflicting punishment on thier opponant. Sr was a brutal two fisted killer who didnt give a **** about getting hit. His speacialty, that most do not mention was his body punching. Sr. hurt people really bad by beating them in the body, causing thier legs to freeze and energy to deplete, forcing them into a brawl. Chavez Sr. was one of World's Greatest soldiers!

His inside fighting, movement and instincts were amazing. He might have been the most accurate puncher ever when you consider a guy who throws that many shots.
Watching this highlight video of Chavez, you'd think he was a defensive minded Mayweather-esch type of fighter. His headmovement in that vid was ****ing brilliant.
