  • Comments Thread For: Schaefer is Proud of Lara, But Admits He's a Tough Sell

Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, admits that junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (18-1, 12KOs), because of his style is a tough sell for the fans and the cable networks.

On Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California - Lara survived two knockdowns to stop fan favorite Alfredo Angulo in the tenth round after one of his punches potentally broke Angulo orbital bone of his left eye.

The win was impressive, but Lara - like his talented Cuban counterparts Yuriorkis Gamboa and Guillermo Rigondeaux, present a technical style of boxing that most fight fans do not appreciate.

So similar to how Arum talked about Rigondeaux after the Donaire fight.

That fight was more exciting -maybe just to me- than Rios Alvarado 2, Bradley provod, or any other fight that is supposed to be FOTY.

I still think we are yet to see the best fights of 2013

goldenboy and the WBC has been doing everything that they can to keep lara from fighting alvarez. 4 straight eliminators. and was talking about matching lara with cotto with the angulo fight pending. tough sell or not. lara should get his shot at alvarez after alavrez loses to mayweather.

Getting dropped and fully recovering against one of the biggest punchers in the division = weak chin?

Goddamn the butthurt is strong with this one.

All these Cubans are a tough sell. The only way you can get away with a defense first style as a boxer is if you're Mayweather.

Or maybe promote them a little more/ better? Have Lara vs. Vanes II on the undercard of Ginger vs Money? The man deserves the exposure after last night's performance.

I;m sure Lara gained a lot more fans after last night's fight. He sure made a fan out of me, and the folks that were watching the fight last night. The man has a chin, bolas, and heart!

It's because Mayweather has a bark with his bite. These guys don't.
