Not every fighter has long term contracts with hbo or Showtime. Cotto fighting on Showtime doesn't mean he won't fight on hbo next etc. Even Pacquiao recently fought on Showtime.

In the 90s everyone had deals with a network, which is horrible for boxing. Over recent years the networks started to buy the FIGHTS, not the fighters, which is what we should all want. Long contracts with guarantees mean Roy Jones fighting a cab driver for millions of dollars. We don't want that again.

It's not like Showtime and HBO are the WWE and WCW of Boxing. Floyd signing to Showtime doesn't mean every GBP fighter will be on Showtime. Adrien Broner literally fought on HBO days ago and are prepping to offer him a long term deal with HBO.

Keep in mind as well, Floyd IS 36 years old. Who knows what's gonna happen this year? What if Floyd does lose? Anything can happen, but Floyd going to Showtime isn't going to put HBO in the toilet considering he only fights once a year. I doubt the subscriptions for HBO are going to plummet unless they cancel Cathouse.

Doesn't matter because we live in a day of boxing where we miss alot of the BIGGEST fights just because of promoters...the GBP Vs Top Rank.

So in this case networks can't be blamed.

He's not, actually. Had a good amateur career so his boxing skills are nice, and he throws punches with serious power. I'm high on him.

If HBO was smart they would purchase on a fight-by-fight basis instead of committing to long term contracts with certain boxers. As another poster mentioned.

Spend the money on quality fights and eventually you'll get a reputation as being the network that always delivers good shows.

                agreed.

To the TS-HBO should really let Manny, JMM and Sergio go to showtime. HBO doesn't need more stars, they need to show better fights on WCB and BAD.

If they did only one ppv this year I'd do chavez Jr./sergio 2 and hope chavez wins. Keep broner, mikey garcia and GGG. Then develop russell/magdaleno. Nonito can fill the manny void.

HBO needs to put on the best 140 lb fights, 154 lb division, and smaller guys like villora. More froch/kessler fights. Even some cruisers and HWT's.

Then use whats left in the budget for more legendary nights installments.

                No more floyd/manny/jmm/cotto/bhop fights!!!

Honestly, how many times are Floyd and Cotto gonna fight? Pac and Marquez are going out, but they still have Broner, who could very well be a superstar, Ward, Nonito, Chavez Jr and Martinez to name a few.
