  • Comments Thread For: Dereck Chisora To Face Edmund Gerber For EBU Belt

As BoxingScene.com reported a few days ago, Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11KOs) will not fight Denis Boytsov for the vacant EBU heavyweight title. Instead Chisora will take on Boytsov's stablemate at Sauerland Event, Edmund Gerber (23-1, 14KOs). The fight will go ahead either on September 21 at Copper Box Arena in London or September 27.

For Gerber, fresh off a number of poor performances with close, dubious wins - this is his big chance but it must be said that Chisora begins as an overwhelming favorite. [Click Here To Read More]

Don't rate either but surely Chisora has this. Gerber is awful!

I guess Warren must have favoured getting the belt over fighting Glazkov and Johnson.

Should be an easy win for Chisora, but I just wonder if its going to be another uninspired performance from him. He is a very good fighter when motivated, but god knows what goes on in that brain of his.

Looks like Sauerland did the proverbial maths and decided Boystov can make better money down the line and is worth protecting a bit more..

.....maybe he's being lined-up as the quick and easy 'voluntary' for the winner of the Wlad v Povetkin showdown?

Russian v Russian or Russian v Ukrainian will sell big numbers at the gate and their broadcasters have much more money and clout than we realise.

Meanwile....Chisora gets himself a very nice, famous blue belt and Gerber goes home with an icepack and a good cheque!

Every fighter needs to build experience.

Chisora was talented enough to be British and Commonwealth champion after just 14 fights and competitive with the best in the world after 18 fights.

He wasn't even in great condition for half of them.
