24-year old Jr. Flyweight Pedro Guevara (20-1-1, 13 KO) of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, scored a wide unanimous decision over 24-year old former IBF Minimumweight titlist Mario Rodriguez (15-8-4, 11 KO) of Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, on Saturday night at the Doma de la Colosio in Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Guevara came into the fight spot on the division limit at 108 lbs. Rodriguez came in a hair under at 107 ¼. The referee was Curtis Trasher.
For the second fight in a row, Guevara got the better of a former Strawweight titlist. It went a little smoother this time around than was the case in a March split decision over Raul Garcia. Despite a cut over his left eye late in the affair, Guevara used a firm jab and a four-inch height advantage to soundly outbox the aggressive but outmatched 5’2 Rodriguez. Final scores showed the futility of Rodriguez’s efforts at 120-108, 119-110, and 118-110.
