  • Nas's album Untitled

Nas's material is over my head somtimes, I have no idea what he's talkin about. But thats no disrespect to him, to me that shows just how talented he is. But does anyone else also feel lost when listenin.

Like his song "queens gets money'. I understand the song as whole, but his metaphors and other vocab is just over my head how he uses his words, and creates his verses

I love that Nas song hero. that has to be one of the best songs of the year.

to answer the question, no i've never been lost listening to Nas. But don't feel bad, theres other rappers that are probably over my head.

      I'm over their heads
Like a bulimic on a seesaw

My queen used the milkshake to bring y'all to my slaughter houses
I do this for the group home kids in boarding houses

      Hip-hop was aborted
So Nas breathes life, back into the embryo
Let us make man in our image
Spit it, I'm Huey P in Louis V throwing Molotov for Emmit
You aint as hot as I is
All of these fake prophets are not messiahs
You don't know how high the sky is
The square milage of Earth, or what pi is
I'm the shaky hand that touched Geogre Foreman in Zaire
The same hand that punched down devils that brought down the towers

Seriously Nas is a beast ill verse from Esco.

As good a lyricist Nas is, he's elementary when compared to Vakill.

Correction Nas is a great lyricists. And far from elementary.

Who besides the Egyptian-walker, ****ers have a conniption
My existence persistent to bring foes misfortune
I dazzle 'em, like the alderman, Billy Dee in Mahogany, minus the perm
From the tiniest sperm that the mightiest The Almighty can muster
Project prophet, chronic blockage gives Alzheimer's to youngsters
Amongst them is me, can't remembers my beefs
With who? For what? They screw-face me up, my boo laced me up
Bolinsiaga, flimsy condo with bimbos in south of Kalan Gro in pimp mode
The inf' glow on his clothes and you know it's over
Hammer hit pin, pin hit shell, from the shell the slug gonna chew ya
Try not to lose me, I try not to lose'ya
Mamma say mamma sa mu makasa, fly to Cuba
To chill with some politi-kill *****z who ill
          'Cause y'all *****z are losers, don't get comfortable *****
Say hello to Mr. Bad Guy, get that cash par, I'm the last don
You'll ever know so, here you go y'all can take these thoughts
Anyway I'm chargin' emcees a late fee cost
So when y'all done with my style, please break me off
But never make Nas mad just in case cross
'Cause ah, lately y'all don't make me happy
To calm my nerve I need the herb GNC don't carry

Nas dissed 50 cent on the intro

"Take 27 MC's, put 'em in a line and they out of alignment
My assignment since he said retirement
Hiding behind 8 mile and the chronic
              Gets rich but dies rhymin'
              This is high science
              Now add 23 more
              From Queens to B-More
              I'm over they heads
              Like a bulimic on a see-saw
Now that's 50 porch-monkeys ate up at the same time"

i usually understand most of his stuff, if not on first listen then i'll put the tune on repeat until i catch what he's saying fully.

but one thing i didn't get (on Queen's Get The Money funnily enough) was the "i'm over they head, like a bulemic on a see-saw" punchline... am i being slow? either way explain how that punchline makes sense please, someone... (the bulemic bit)

Well in terms of the line itself he's just bragging about how "out there" or "complex" he is at rhyming. Bulimia is an eating disorder where you eat and vomit back up what you ate. A lot of girls have this complex about their weight and live of fear of being fat I guess. That's why they do it. What it basically does is keep them low in weight and skinny.

If you take a normally weighted person and a bulimic and place them on a see saw, the bulimic's side will be higher than yours. And it's Nas exaggeration that he's over your head or "above" you like that bulimic on a see saw.
