By Jake Donovan - Yuriorkis Gamboa remains a man of his word. Unfortunately, it’s his most recent words he chooses to honor, where he promised to once again be a no-show for the Los Angeles end of the press tour to hype his scheduled April 14 HBO-televised fight with Brandon Rios.

The Rios camp along with Top Rank Inc. and the West Coast-based media gathered at the Biltmore Millennium Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom in Los Angeles to hype up a fight that has received overwhelming support from the boxing public.

“The most surprising thing for me with this fight was the reaction from the fans,” said Todd DeBuof, president of Top Rank. “They were going nuts. They were sending me e-mails. They were texting. You have to see the blogging out there, the comments in the social media. So what happens? Tickets go on sale and there is incredible demand.”

This fight is all about Gamboa, not Rios. This fight is generating interest because Gamboa is coming up two weight classes to fight. Not because Rios is gonna fight a guy two weight classes below him. Gamboa can come up to 135 and fight DeMarco or some other title holder or top 10 guy, and it would still generate interest. Cause he's the one doing the ballsy move here, not Rios.
