  • Comments Thread For: Thurman vs. Zaveck on The Horizon For March 9th?

Several overseas sources are reporting that Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18KOs) is possibly going to return to HBO on March 9th, taking on undefeated welterweight contender Keith Thurman (19-0, 18KOs). The event is taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Zaveck, a former IBF champion, was stopped by Andre Berto in five rounds in 2011. He fought once in 2012, winning a twelve round decision over Bethuel Ushona. Thurman is being pushed as a rising star. In his last bout, in November, he stopped former champion Carlos Quintana in four rounds.

Really liking this fight for one-time, a solid top 10 WW opponent who is game.

Just like to see Thurman campaign at the one weight class and not weight jump so early.

This is a solid fight. Zaveck put on an exciting fight with Berto on HBO before his face busted up. Would like to see how Thurman fairs here. If he gets him out early he is legit.

zaveck is very limited imo, though it's still a step up so decent fight for thurman at this stage.

Haymon sells this story to HBO with all his fighters. "This guy is going to be a star. So, its ok to put him in their with tomato cans because eventually he'll be s superstar."

Ok, we're still waiting for that superstar, and in the meantime, we get crappy fights airing on HBO that don't even belong on ESPN2.

Haymon is ruining HBO. His fighters get more dates than anybody else, and usually they're mismatches.

Tomato can? you're in for a big surprise if this fight goes down... I know nothing about Thurman but I wouldn't be surprised if he loses this fight. Zaveck is limited, but he's tough as nails, and gave Andre Berto some good rounds before the fight had to be stopped due to a cut.

People are calling him a former top 10 WW cause that's what he was....(might still be) he held a title and I'm sure he's still pretty high up in the rankings, regardless of what you think.

w/Zavecks inactivity & Thurman's advantage in size another ko..guess this will b around 152 as Thurman won't kill himself going 2 WW, but Keith is fighting names but need 2 box some1 not over the hill like Carlos Q or a nothing in Zaveck...
