  • Comments Thread For: Golden Boy CEO: No Animosity With 50 Over New Venture

By Rick Reeno - According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, there is no animosity between his company and rapper 50 Cent.

It was recently revealed that 50 Cent had formed his own promotional company called TMT Promotions. TMT is short for the "The Money Team" - a phrase coined by the rapper's best friend, pound-for-pound superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr.

50 Cent has already received a promoter's license in New York and appears to be on the verge of receiving one in the state of Nevada.

The centerpiece of the rapper's boxing stable will be Mayweather himself. Other boxers to be promoted by TMT Promotions include unbeaten Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa and top-rated super middleweight Andre Dirrell.

There have been rumors brewing among insiders in the boxing industry, that Mayweather will no longer be working with Golden Boy, and all of his future fights will now be promoted by the new comapny formed by 50 Cent. [Click Here To Read More]

Good To Hear! No Need For It! That is what hurts Boxing...Animosity Between Promotions keep the fans from seeing the fights they want!

If TMT Promotions really takes off, and Floyd-Dirrell-Gamboa is a GREAT start, I'd be willing to bet Broner signs with them once his GBP contract is up.

50 should put his full focus on Gamboa. Floyd has 2 good fights in him and he's done. Manny and then the winner of Martinez and Chavez Jr. There is no one else to fight after that. At least no one that makes business sense. Why risk fighting a young Canelo and risk losing to a new generation guy? The other 2 make more sense. (Manny and Sergio)

Didn't read like De La Hoya was trying to offend 50. Boxing promoter game is a tough nut to crack. Could be taken either way though depending how you feel at the moment and 50 felt some kind of way.

Interesting article. Oscar is right when he says good luck because they're definitely gonna need it. GBP, TR, and Al Haymon have such a tight hold on the game that it's very hard to sign talent. I've been in the boxing industry since 2006 (not exactly a lot but not exactly a little either) and the big, big majority of coaches and fighters want to sign with 1) Top Rank - Because of their ability to move (and grow) a fighter, 2) Golden Boy - Because of the exposure they can create (even though they're not as good at moving a fighter), and 3) Al Haymon - Because even though he's not a promoter, he's very influential (deals mainly with black fighters, though).

50 Cent has Mayweather who is the top earner in the sport. It's never easy to start in a competitive business but that is a very good start.

i like how schafer remains neutral on these subjects. in fact the only time i see him get riled up is when arum is involved.
