  • Mauro Mina

A name from the past. A very good fighter who unfortunately had his career
stopped because of an eye injury. He beat Bob Foster.

The win over Foster was in Peru and supposedly was an awful decision. I've never seen the fight, so maybe someone who has can comment.

If he went the distance with Foster, he must have been durable.

Mina is the only fighter with a win over Foster at lightheavyweight before he was totally washed up.

I looked him up after I posted that. He also beat Eddie Cotton twice, and Henry hank, all in New York. No slouch, apparently.

I haven't seen the fight either, but according to Boxrec, the fight was actually at heavyweight.

Mina was a career lightheavy and it's not unusual for contenders to fight a few lbs over the weight limit if no title is at stake. Foster weighed 176 and Mina weighed 180, so most people regard it as a lightheavyweight fight.

Surprised Bob didn't seek a rematch with him.

Before he was finally given a title shot, Foster was a no name with no leverage to demand any fights. Mina was retired by 1965 anyway.
