  • Boxings best win.

I must say that I'm quite moved by the passing of Joe Frazier. The somberness I feel surprised me.

I was thinking if Fraziers win over Ali was the best single win in boxing history?

Other great wins include Duran over Leonard, LaMotta over Robinson, Leonard over Hagler.

I might be sentimental but I sway towards Smokin' Joe.

    What do you say?

I'll add a poll later when some more suggestions have come up.

Frazier's 1971 victory over Ali is probably the most presitigious win in history.

Obviously it was a fairly even money fight going in so it can't rank with Buster Douglas vs Tyson, for shock value.

But 'The fight of the century' was one of the biggest sporting/media events ever. It is right that Joe is given that accolade..........

Louis vs Schmelling 2 was a close second for me.

Frazier-Ali I is the biggest and greatest sporting event in history.....and Joe won it. So, it's certainly up there.

But, if you're looking at a big fight where the win and performance solidified a fighter's greatness....I'd go with Duran-Leonard I or Ali-Foreman.

          Fine choices.

          Poll options so far:

          Frazier-Ali I
          Lamotta-Robinson II
          Duran-Leonard I
          Leonard-Hagler
          Louis-Schmeling II
          Ali-Foreman

I think Johnson over Jeffries deserves a slot as well.

            In order, I would have....

Ali beating Foreman......(Foreman had beat Frazier & Norton, both of who beat Ali. It looked to be an impossible task)

Duran beating Leonard.....(I was SO happy when Duran beat Ray Leonard)

Frazier beating Ali....(This was the fight that got me interested in boxing in the 1st place)

Joe Louis vs Schmeling 2....(If Joe would have lost this one, he wouldn't be the legend he still is today)

As far as odds go, I hate to mention the obvious 42-1 underdog...

It was already mentioned by Sugarj. The win looked greater at the time than it does now though, but yeah. That was a great win by Douglas.
