Joe Louis - Ramage #10, Carnera #3, Retzlaff #4, Schmeling #2 (loss), Ettore #9, Pastor #8, Braddock (Champion).

Ali - Daniel #8, Moore #9, Jones #2, Liston (champion).

Jack Johnson - Not available as The Ring Rankings don't go back that far.

Larry Holmes - Shavers #6, Norton (champion)

    Foreman - Peralta #10, Chuvalo #7.

    Lennox Lewis - Ruddock #7, Tucker #5

Tyson - no fights against "The Ring top 10 fighters before his win over Berbick.

    Liston - DeJohn #10, Harris #7, Machen #5, Folley #1, Patterson (champion).

Holyfield - Thomas #5, Dokes #3, Douglas (champion).

Marciano - Layne #6, Louis #1, Savold #2, Walcott (champion).

Im a big Louis fan, but personally I think this Honor goes to Liston. He progressively destroyed a better fighter each time out and never stumbled along the way. Thoughts?
In the 175 pound history, Michael Spinks fights on his way to the title were excellent preparation. He defeated Ramon Ronquillo, Murray Sutherland, Marvin Johnson and Yaqui Lopez before soundly defeating Eddie Mustafa Muhammad for the title.
