im not sure yet but i give mayweather 1st place at this time

If we're talking about the greatest fighters who had any fights in the 21st century, then the likes of Pernell Whitaker and Roy Jones are up there.

Based exclusively on fights in the 21st century, though, and I'll agree that Mayweather is #1.

      Off the top of my head;

      1. Mayweather
      2. Pacquaio
      3. Hopkins
      4. Morales
      5. Barrera
      6. Marquez
      7. Trinidad
      8. Oscar
      9. Mosley
      10. Not sure

      Cotto? Not sure. Calzaghe maybe.

Edit - Trinidad was a bad pick. I remove him.

Its easy to forget some of the amazing fighters from the turn of this century:

Roy Jones Jnr was still very impressive for the first 4 years. Likewise.....Oscar De La Hoya. Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad were special for a while.

Marco Antonio Barrera & Eric Morales had some amazing performances....as did Lennox Lewis.

Joe Calzaghe certainly deserves a mention.

Hopkins deserves to be included as well as Marquez and Pacquiao.

But the fighter who has been consistently closest to being pound for pound number one since the end of the 20th century has to be Floyd Mayweather.

this thread really should be more busy, great fun listing the best guys in a century where the likes of Jones Jr and DLH slowly faded but Pac, Hopkins and Mayweather made their names. Not to mention Wlad, Vitali, Barrera, Morales, Calzghe....so my top 10 (subject to minor changes):

          1. Manny Pacquiao
          2. Bernard Hopkins
          3. Floyd Mayweather
          4. Joe Calzaghe
          5. Marco Antonio Barrera
          6. Juan Manuel Marquez
          7. Wladimir Klitschko
          8. Vitali Klitschko
          9. Oscar De La Hoya
          10. Roy Jones Jr. (gets a mention for winning a title at HW and beating a very good Tarver)

Honorable mentions go to Froch and Trinidad. Froch may well make it onto that list if he can beat Kessler, meaning he would have beaten pretty much every SMW that matters, barring Ward.

Your top 3 is pretty much the way I see it, however I can't justify Jones and Morales that high. Jones' best wins are Tarver and Ruiz, after that he failed at every other major fight, getting KO'd multiple times. Morales' doping scandal has soured it for me, he used to be one of my all time favs.

Mosley, another drugs cheat. Lewis had I think 3 fights this century, can't have him in a top on the back of that.

I agree with you on Cotto and Winky getting honorable mentions.

Jones beat Gonzales, Ruiz, Tarver, Johnson, Harding going from HW to LHW in doing so. Vitali lost his only big fight, and is also a drug cheat so why do you have him?

Lewis' wins over Klitschko, Holyfield, Tua, Rahman and Grant are better than the KBro's 21st century resume combined.

Morales' doping has no bearing on his wins over Chi, Barrera, Pacquiao, Chavez, Kelley and Ayala when he was at his best.
