  • Comments Thread For: Amir Khan: Freddie Roach Can Rebuild Nathan Cleverly

British star Amir Khan has advised former champion Nathan Cleverly to retain the services of veteran trainer Freddie Roach. Last Saturday in Cardiff, Cleverly was beat down over four rounds by Sergey Kovalev. When Khan suffered a vicious first round KO loss at the hands of Breidis Prescott in 2008, he hired Roach, who helped the British boxer regain his standing and win a world title in a few quick fights. Cleverly is trained by father Vince, but that business partnership is in jeopardy as both of them agree a training change might be in order.

He's saying that to sweeten his own past with the wild card gym. Amir's a plank because he made out he wasn't getting defence from Freddie, and that's exactly what Nathan actually needs.

Im not a Khan fan but hes correct he needs to leave Vince and move to another trainer.

He doesnt have to go to america though there are plenty of decent british trainers

Amir is talking out his ä§s but I agree with him. Khan beat Peterson but was robbed and was knocked out by Danny when he was clearly whooping him and got caught with a lucky punch and all that is Roach's fault? Now he's with Virgil, who's a great trainer himself but does not fit khan style amd almost lost to a journeyman in J Diaz. Granted his defense approach is not the beat, but his offense is usually better than the opposition

America has the best gyms in the World. These gyms bring out the full time fighter out of you which Cleverly doesn't have.

Apart from Khan is dumb and never lived in the gym. You need to basically train a lot to stay at the top.

Mayweather is always in shape. Pac isn't and fell quickly.
