I'm guessing he doesn't think Mao, Pol Pot or Tito killed anyone either. He also seems to imply that Communism and Socialism are synonymous.
Professors such as this guy are trying to make a name for themselves by advocating an opposing view that would stir controversy. Obviously, he felt that choosing to deny Stalins crimes was the safer path than say to deny Hitler's crimes, but the truth is Stalin and Hitler are one and the same. And this guy is a cheap excuse for a professor and I would be very disappointed if I was a student who had to take his class.

Not comparable, but promoting intelligent design in a biology class tends to get you fired.

Or astronomy professor denied tenure for the same

Really? That's your defense? Why don't we have a looksie at Professor Furr's politics and social issues webpage (from the college website)

These are the sites I have found most valuable in my struggle to understand the world: the class struggle; exploitation; and all the attendant horrors of capitalism, as well as in evaluating the successes and failures of the old Communist movement.

One of these is not like the other

Because I found it interesting, buttplug. Any more questions? Thank you for taking time out from your daily Christian and Republican/Conservative bashing to participate in my thread though.
Damn first round knock down of piggy by JJ.

He could well be an outstanding English teacher. Denigrating his teaching ability in his area of expertise is like vilifying the teaching of an economics professor because he brews bad wine.

I don't know about Canada, but many English Professors are experts in History. They have to choose an era to concentrate on, such as, Medieval Period or 18th Century. My 18th Century Lit Professor has dealt with many primary sources of History/English Lit when doing research. He even has a collection of Old Dictionaries.

The only good thing to come out of Stalin's Soviet Union is the Koch Brother's father Fred C. Koch and his company prospering and bringing the profits back to the states.

I guess my grandfathers and uncles all just died of natural causes.

If this guy is an expert on the Stalinist era Soviet Union then the threshold for expertise is low at his university.
