  • Comments Thread For: Disappointment: Kirkland Not Injured, Wants More Money

Never say never in the world of boxing and strange things happen on a weekly basis. But once you think that you've seen everything in this business, something happens that makes you shake your head in disbelief.

Earlier today, BoxingScene.com was advised that James Kirkland was still feeling pain in his right shoulder and he wouldn't be able to move forward with a scheduled fight with WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

If Kirk is ok, he needs to fight. Get the titles, then get the money.

Secondly, you heard it from the horses mouth: "It's up to Canelo who he fights next".

This is why he's asking for more money to get ktfo by Canelo. This is why boxing is a dead sport.

Cowards like Kirkland looking to cash out for short money.
read the la times article where kirkland himself talks about what's going on, don't listen to promoters and managers.

kirkland is saying he's not 100% and for that he's not willing to fight. he said however everyone has their price and he'd fight canelo for like $2+ million dollars, he said he'd risk losing because of an injury for that kind of money, otherwise hell take his time and hopefully fight Canelo next year.

to suggest kirkland is scared of Canelo is silly since he willingly took two title eliminator fights to get canelo. Canelo is who he's been chasing this whole time.

bottom line is he's not 100% and that's that. Canelo will probably fight Trout and kirkland will take a tune up later in the year.

imo he's smart. he shouldn't go into the biggest and most challenging fight of his career coming off shoulder surgery.

Lets be real, Canelo vs Kirkland sells substantially more then any of the other options available...
