WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (44-4, 35KOs) received some bad news on Monday, when he was informed that his scheduled defense on March 2nd was canceled, because mandatory challenger Jayson Velez injured his ankle and withdrew from the match. Ponce De Leon vs. Velez was going to headline a Showtime televised tripleheader at Apollo Theater in New York City.
"Now we have to wait for another opponent. I was ready for the fight on March 2. It's a shame that Vélez did not want to fight, and now we have to wait for someone else. I have to stay on track, continue training," Ponce De Leon stated.
