  • How Much Do Genetics Matter?

When it comes to boxing siblings there's nearly always a tremendous gap in ability between the better brother and lesser brother.

Not really. Intelligence goes farther than anything else. Regardless of what most people think, this is a thinking mans sport first and foremost.

You'd have a point if you had any identical twins for examples. (Unless you do, of course)

        Otherwise they'd be different, genetically.

Broner has a twin. The Solution is nowhere to be found. He boxed as an amateur but didn't take it all the way for unspecified reasons.

The Solution. That would make a great match-up.

            Are they identical twins though?

The way Broner mentioned his bro made them sound like identical twins

Well then they should have pretty much the same physical potential.

Mental could be a different story.

There can be quite a big difference in genetics between siblings, obviously not as big as it would be with unrelated people, but not so with identical twins.

Off the top of my head I would say the marquez brothers along with the klits are the most talented brothers.

I think genetics do matter a lot though. I mean it may seem like there is a huge difference in skill between the family members but there are quite a few boxing families with multiple world champions amongst them and only a very small percentage of boxers reach that level.

Also things like reflexes can be worked on some but for the most part people are born with them. And you look at guys like the klits who were blessed with good genetics and look at the mayweather family where mayweather sr is like almost 60, with that lung disease and still has a 6 pack. Freaking roy jones would still have a six pack if he had an office job and did curls twice a week.

People like to believe that its mostly hard work and dedication because its a nice idea that anyone could be a champion if they just trained hard but the reality is that genetics do matter a lot and life isnt fair, everyone isnt equal. Some people are born smarter, more athletic, better looking or born into wealthier families than others. Its just the way it is.

As far as naturally gifted boxers, everyone likes the fast guys like whitaker and RJJ but also I think George Foreman is one the most naturally gifted guys out there in the history of boxing.

Go look at the timeline and he won the gold medal less than two years after his very first amateur fight. That is freaking amazing if you think about it and he won a lot of those fights by knock out and won bout for the medal by knockout as well. The guy picked up boxing relatively late and just steam rolled everybody.
