By Robert Morales - Paul Williams did more than lose a big fight to Sergio Martinez last November at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City - he was knocked out in the second round of a middleweight title bout that was supposed to be hotly contested. But whereas some fighters who have suffered the same fate have had difficulty recovering from the psychological trauma of such a devastating setback, Williams claims that is not the
    case with him.

"To be honest, that was out of my mind as soon as it happened," said Williams, who July 9 will get back in the ring for the first time since that loss when he takes on Erislandy Lara of Cuba in the junior middleweight main event at the scene of the crime - Boardwalk Hall.

"I got up, they checked me out. After that, somebody had a party as if I would have won. We still had the same party. Then I was down there at the casino tables as if nothing had happened."

This way of thinking is something that has been prevalent in the Williams camp for some time, said George Peterson, his manager/trainer.

"If you are going to accept winning, you have to accept losing," Peterson said. "Some people, they think it's a funeral. There is no need for that. You can always come back. The best have, and that is what we are looking at." [Click Here To Read More]

I like Williams but I told everybody watching the fight with me that Sergio's right hand was getting closer and closer then BOOM. I could clearly see Sergio setting him up with that punch so I dont know who Paul is talking to but wasn't nothing lucky about that punch and the sooner he realizes it the better off he will be.

well. williams convinced me. but man was that a wicked KO!
lara seems like the perfect opponent for williams situation.
lara can gain statis with a Good loss.

yeah man to me nothing is more inspiring than to see a fighter get right back up and go back to war. i hope he beats the brakes of lara too.

you a collazo fan too?! all dude does is put in work! i heard that he actually runs a pretty successful bread company/bread route? makes six figures doing that.

idk man.. i mean martinez was setting him up for sure, but williams was in control of the fight.

sergio fights in spurts but he couldnt keep paul of him and we all know williams fights non stop. martinez couldnt keep his space and was constantly forced to tie williams up on the inside. i think the success he was having is what made williams get sloppy and he helped martinez land that big left hand.

i agree it wasnt a lucky punch, martinez was setting him up. but he wasnt setting him up from round one, the fight was going pauls way and sergio got desperate, williams is right about that much.

Williams was in control of the fight?

Yeah getting hit repeatedly with flush shots was in his gameplan.

Haha right? Martinez was the one landing all the big shots in both rounds. Williams was switching it up by smothering Sergio, but didn't land much of anything, and it was running in like that that caused him to get KTFO. He thought he could pull a Williams-Quintana II, but instead was Quintana'd.

He wasn't in control of anything but the HBO team's biased commentary.
