  • Classic Fights for Download

    Instead of my polluting Butterfly's tournament thread anymore, or any other thread, I figured I'd just put some of these fights in their very own thread (discussions on them are encouraged, as well).

    Start this one with the great Ron Lyle/Earnie Shavers slugfest from the mid 70's;

    http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...5B448C0AB435D1

    Watch for the left hook from hell at the end of the second round by Shavers, and be suprised how Lyle even managed to pick himself up from that shot, nevermind the heart he showed in going on to actually win the fight...

    Enjoy!

    P.S. If this link or any other one runs out before you have the opportunity to download it (it is yousendit, afterall), just say the word and I'll reupload the fight for you...unless your name is either Butterfly or Yaman, of course.

      Here's a fight from 1930 between two large and mostly underrated(in my opinion) heavyweights, Primo Carnera & George Godfrey;

            Brilliant offering.

            What a great fight and a vivid reminder of the depth of the heavyweight division in the 70's. Great toe to toe non-stop in-fighting action. Lyle was a strong, tough, hard hitting SOB with a ton of heart who just plain outlasted Shavers. Amazing to see Lyle all but KO'd in the 2nd round continue to stand and trade in close with Shavers. Great uppercuts from Lyle fighting off the ropes and great power right hands for the KO.

            Early in this fight Shavers demonstrated a tight compact style, dipped well at the waist, had two handed power, was a busy infighter, mixed his attack and possessed decent handspeed. He was a better fighter technically than he is given credit for, often being portrayed as a crude one handed fighter which as this fight clearly shows he was not. His problem was always stamina.

              The Fight of the Century.

              The first one to be given that title was the infamous fight in Sabbath's signature up there...Johnson vs. Jeffries. The second one was fought on March 8th, 1971, and featured a classic contest between a couple of undefeated heavyweights who both had some claim to the title of heavyweight champion of the world;

              Some of you guys already have this one, I'm sure. But if you don't...

              Enjoy!

                For those who wanted it (Rock, Brass, or anybody else), here's about ten minutes of the first fight between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney;

                Their rematch is on deck.
