Sergio Martinez: What does he have to do for you to consider him an ATG?

Floyd would do it. Sweeping his division would just be like "ggg who?" Or "pirog who?" Thats pretty much how it would go. They would keep finding unproven up an comers to be the new guy he's ducking. He needs someone already passing that threshhold from good to great. I believe he's a great fighter, but he needs another great fighter to demonstrate it. Ward and Sergio initially showed interest in each other but have both given each other their space and seem to just let each other do their thing. Ward says hes too big he wants to move up...Martinez too small and wants to move down. Ward has youth on his side so he can forge his own. Martinez has done the same..but at a later age and he'll need a helping hand up there. He'll have to beat some names as opposed to unknowns. Gotta piggy back his way up a little higher if you will. Needs a few more big names. He's gunna be considered borderline as is imo (not atg, but maybe hof)

Mayweather at 154, Ward at 168, and Golovkin at 160. Very hard to do and maybe demanding too much, but ATG is someone you have in the top 10 of a division all time and Martinez has plenty of work to do before he's in that convo.

The greatest always did it over the odds. ALWAYS. Monzon is a top 4 middleweight reigning a division beating the same guys over and over again. Martinez can't do it beating the guys he should over a division? Really? He's already beat guys he SHOULDN'T have (Pavs, Williams, Bunema)

But now he is just too good to make the HOF fighting in his own division?

Neither have done shizz while Sergio has fought all over the world, won titles in two divisions, won 98% of his fights, and whether you want to admit it or not, fights top 10 competition in almost every fight. All this with no amateur career and picking up the sport at 20 years old. He has also been ripped off in a few fights, so he basically has one career loss when he was green as they come about 13 years ago.

And they're really undefeated aswell. Not like Murray who was incredibly lucky to get a draw against Sturm.

And I'm not sure why Murray is in the Top 10 except again, for getting a lucky draw against Sturm.

That's really, well and truley the bottom of the barrel when it comes to "Top 10".

he has the potential to be an atg but he truly aint yet. i hope he can do it with his little time left because he deserves to be there.. if he didnt started and figured things at his late 20's he really could've easily.

I think it is too late in the game for him to become an atg, the time for him to build the foundation of his career was a decade ago. Now he is building the foundations with wins over Williams and Pavlik but it is really too little too late unless he pulls a BHop and continues collecting respectable wins into his mid late 40s.

Let's not forget about him beating Pavlik when he was ranked #1 at MW or when he fought Williams who was ranked top 5 at MW as well.......you know, when Sergio took the fight on two weeks notice and moved up from 154 to face Williams?
