Travis Tygart, executive director of the USADA, said he had talked to representatives of both fighters about providing testing. Tygart said he welcomed the request as he would for any sport that does not have stringent Olympic-type testing.

"I think every sport that wants to have clean athletes it's a sign of a step forward to have out of competition testing," Tygart said. "It's an essential thing to do if you want to protect the integrity of the sport. Clean athletes want a level playing field."

Tygart noted Olympic athletes are tested often and without notice. He said less than a teaspoon of blood is removed out of an average of 380 teaspoons in the normal human and that it regenerates within an hour of being withdrawn.

Ellerbe said he couldn't imagine why Pacquiao wouldn't agree, especially considering both fighters would likely make more than $25 million for the bout.

A few things...


1) It makes the most sense, to me at least, to do the standard piss test prior to the fight and then the bloodwork immediately afterwards. It really makes no difference, but I can understand Pacquiao not wanting to have blood drawn so close before the fight. It rids both sides of excuses - Floyd's team can't use the "Floyd lost because Manny is on roids" excuse because in-depth testing will have been done, and Pac's team can't use the "Manny lost because he wasn't feeling good after drawing blood" excuse because things will be standard fare prior to the fight.


2) It also makes sense for this to become standard practice. Less noteworthy fighters shouldn't get a pass just because they're not in mega-mega-megafights.



This whole mess of bull**** is 50/50 between Floyd hyping the fight by making sure it's in the news (there was an article on the drug test situation on the front page of Yahoo earlier tonight) and Floyd once again thinking that he's bigger than the sport. This is the biggest fight in ages and of course his camp goes public with some stupid reports that are spun to make it sound like Pacquiao is hiding something, which brings boxing into a negative light. I love the guy as a boxer but his family is a collection of douchebags.
