Your chin need not be weak to fail you in that situation.
This is so true barkley although not an altime great was almost like the razor ruddock of the middleweight divsion he had a punch that if landed could knock out alot of quality middleweights of his era.

He had an average chin. It got more shaky once he went to 160.

I wouldn't consider Tommys chin as a "weak" point in his armor! He got stopped by Leonard after fighting extremely hadr over 14 rounds and Leonard was throwing bombs at him in the 14th because he was told he was behind, Tommy got caught! The Hagler fight was like the Leonard fight condenced into 3 rounds!!! Both Hagler and Leonard were above average punchers in their respective division. Not great punchers but combinations throwers with pop!! Barkley was the best puncher he fought, he was doing well and just got caught! He came back a few years later and went the distance with Iran and gave him everything he had in a distance fight! Did the same thing with Leonard, granted they were not in prime years but fought each other straight up!!
Tommy had a tuff build to deal with in boxing, being tall and short bodied his long legs had to take up the shock of big punches and the accumulation of shots over hard rounds wears down any fighter. He simply didn't have the rescoupertive powers that some others had! H is a top twenty welter of all time and he could get most out with one good right to the jaw, a dangerous fighter for sure! Ray.

Hearns had an average chin, but this is somewhat magnified because he had everything else! Another thing is when a fighter of his body type is stopped it is visually ugly.

It is my opinion that if Hearns had a GREAT chin he would have been the best fighter that ever lived.

Hearns toolbox was full. Great jab, crushing right hand, great left hook, great balance, good defense, great reflexes, etc.

Add the tools mentioned to a fighter that was always in shape and more than willing to fight anyone and that's what I call a professional boxer!
