People are rewriting history because the fight ended at the exact moment that May was on the ropes. But Floyd has been in that spot in EVERY fight. IT WASN'T THAT FLOYD WAS HURT. Or having problems defending. Floyd is at home on the ropes. Think of it like a jiu Jitsu master being on his back. It's a defensive position, but also an offensive one for Floyd.
Guys get TOO excited when they get Floyd on the ropes. They don't realize that is where he WANTS to be. Examples? Sure:
1) Corley landed a big shot on Floyd. Floyd immediately put his back on the ropes.
2) Zab landed a big shot on Floyd. Floyd immediately put his back on the ropes.
3) Mosley landed a big shot on Floyd. Floyd immediately put his back on the ropes.
What was the common thread in all three scenarios? Floyd came off the ropes to win the rest of the round. In every case.
- Victor was down 3-0, 3-0, and 2-1 on the cards.
- Mayweather had landed 3x the punches that Victor landed. (per Compubox)
- Ortiz' eye was already closing in round 4
- Floyd couldn't miss with the right hand.
- Floyd opened up round 4 by hurting Ortiz (please go watch the first 40 seconds)
Those are the facts... but people are rewriting history. Ortiz had 2-3 more rounds in him, and he was getting KO'd. And Victor knew it.
