No hate for Jermaine Taylor, but why do people say he was a good fighter?

Outside of the two iffy decisions he got he lost to Abraham of all guys and he never beat anybody who meant anything.

Unified a division and say what u want but he won those 2 decisions! You could say that about pacman s 2 wins over marquez but winning is winning and thats all that shows in the history books!

Before the Pavlik fight he was very good but never great. Fighting Hopkins and Winky to a tough draw and a controversial wins cant be done by a bum.

That doesnt mean he wasnt a good fighter. Anyone who watched a Prime Taylor knows that he was a damn good fighter. Very raw and unpolished but to say he wasnt good is just being silly.

You dont take guys like Hopkins and Winky to hell and back and say that fighter isnt good.

so at one point he was undefeated with 2 wins over bhop, draw vs winky, and a win over corey spinks and he wasn't good? okay.

hate when people say, "if you take away these wins". you could do that with any fighter

Taylor had all the talent and skill, but he did not have the mental fortitude.

60% of the fight game is psychological.

You can have all the skills in the world, but if you don't have that killer instinct or the drive to dominate your opponent, you'll end up like Jermain.

Come on guys, Taylor wasn't a good fighter. This is true as it gets. There were guys who beat Cory Spinks more convicningly than Taylor did. Like Latimore. And drawing with Winky Wright with the kind of size advantage Taylor had isn't anything special either.

He was a very talented fighter. You can say he underachieved after Hopkins though. Just look at his amateur career, he was fantastic in the amateurs. You don't do that well if you're not talented.

I think he had two flaws that hurt his career - stamina was an issue and he was mentally weak at times. Oh and he didn't adjust well in fights if you recall Emanuel Stewart would always scream at him to do something and he would just revert back to what he was doing before.

As far as talent goes, he had it all - speed, power, great reflexes. Just his mind wasn't always right. When he was hungry he was a force to be reckoned with though.
