He is good but he got his overratedness from paul williams, its like handing out the torch. Pavlik was exposed way before Bhop, dzinzuruk and cintron was one division lower before they fought martinez.

PWill was very successful against good opposition for a long time before that Sergio ko loss, he is obviously lacking in some areas but for ppl to call him overrated now after the ko loss and a bad showing after epitomizes what is means to only be as good as your last fight in boxing.

Sergio's 2010 was full of excellent wins and he has proven to be top shelf in no way overrated, anyone who watches him fight can see he is a very special talent.

Quintana beat Williams, and depending on who you ask, Sergio himself had already beaten Williams. Most recently he won (lost) to Lara

Williams being massively overrated resulted in Sergio being catapulted too quickly from the periphery to taking William's p4p spot - because Williams should have never had a p4p spot in the first place.

but on the other hand, should you drop sergio in the p4p ranks because williams turned out to be a hypejob? he's just kind of stayed there until someone obvious pushes him lower, and nobody has done that
For all you guys who forgot that neither Mayweather, Mosley, Pacquaio or Margarito really wanted any part of Williams and still want fight him. Him fighting every dangerous opponent out there is the reason he should be number one IMO. He doesnt get to pick and choose like Pacquaio or Floyd. HBO mandates that he fights certain guys. He mans up and fights them and when he makes it look easy we want to downgrade the win.

Just think if PAC had to fight Berto, Williams, Bradley, Khan, Alexander and all the other young hungry fighters out there instead of damaged Cotto, exposed Mosley, Slow beaten badly Margarito, Over-rated Clottey, weight drained Oscar and brutally punished Hatton then we wouldnt be having this discussion about whom is number one or two because for some reason even if Freddie Roach comes out and tells us that he makes sure his fighter has an advantage. We turn our back on a legit fight. Why did Cotto have to come down to 145 for a 147 title defense? Why did Pac fight Margarito at 150 for a 154 belt that neither deserved a shot at in the first place. Why did Roach and Pac both say Mosley was too good until Mayweather and Mora exposed him? Why did PAC want nothing to do with Yuri Foreman or Sergio because of height differences but fought Margarito coming off of a Mosley loss and long lay off. Please people open up your eyes and give Sergio his credit. Name one fighter that he is ducking and then you will have your answer as to whom the real P4P champ is. Marquez should be higher than Donaire also. Floyd isnt and shouldnt be on the list because of inactivity but Bradley, Ward and Rios should all be higher than Donaire IMHO because of recent activity and the fighters that they have faced. Donaire to me is in the same situation as Bute and PAC. Until they STEP UP AND FIGHT A REAL CONTENDER they belong on the over-rated list.

          Sergio Martinez is the Messiah.

Pound for pound discussions are child’s talk, when discussing this modern day phenom.

Pavlik was exposed at what weight class? It wasn't at middleweight since you like to bring up bullshhitt excuses like that.

Martinez's claim to fame was a Williams KO. I dont think Williams was/is overrated tho. Overrated people dont go toe to toe with the #2 P4P and give him the fight of his life.

Martinez is a good fighter, but I really dont think he is the most talented/best/fastest.. People overrate and over-exaggerate fighters all the time, and I think Martinez falls in the overrated category

                Overrated?

                No.

                Watch him fight.

                He's UNDERRATED!

Carlos Monzon + Marvelous Marvin Hagler = Sergio Maravilla Martinez

The Middleweight Champion is a legend in the making.

I agree, he is a good maybe even great fighter. But he is definitely overrated.
Everyone on NSB think he can easily beat Pac and Floyd, when all he has on them is size and everything that comes a long with that. Reach, power, height, etc.

His best win was a "one punch" KO of Pwill. After losing to him during their first fight.
