  • [PLEASE HELP] Second Ammendment clarification needed

The right to bear arms in the United States. Here we can legally purchase and own guns.

I thought the right to bear arms was made so that citizens could become part of a militia to defend the country from an invader and not to shoot someone trying to invade your home.

    Help clarify this for me

You are a free law abiding citizen. You can do whatever you want with them so long as your aren't committing a crime.

It was intended originally to give citizens the right to form militias against the government to defend them against future tyranny. Tyranny that the British imposed upon the American settlers. You know, by stopping them from invading Indian land, keeping slaves and requesting sufficient taxation to cover the cost of defending the settlements against natives and the French. Those tyrants!

the 2nd amendment was created to ensure that the militias can be formed when need be and armed.

if you look at u.s. military history , up until the civil war , the u.s. had a very small military.

after the civil war the military was again downsized until ww1.

the state militias formed the bulk of our defense for the most part until the 20th century.

what the forefathers intended was a militia system similar to switzerland's canton militias.

The Constitution was created on September 17, 1787. Ratified on June 21, 1788. On March 4, 1789, the Government began operations.

The problem with your comment on slavery is that slave trade within the British Empire was not abolished until 1807, with the Slave Trade Act.

When the 2nd Amendment was written and enacted, Britain was still profiting from selling us slaves.
