The proposed Nov. 13 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito will not take place at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas after Top Rank officials withdrew their request today to have Margarito's application for a boxing license placed on the Aug. 9 agenda of the Nevada Athletic Commission.
"We did whatever we could to see that the fight was going to be in Las Vegas," Top Rank chairman Bob Arum said. "However, the Nevada commission has other views and we decided we can't engage in trying to change their views."
Margarito has been granted a special hearing before the California State Athletic Commission Aug. 18. California intially suspended Margarito foor one year and revoked his license following a dressing room incident in Los Angeles prior to his Jan. 24, 2009, fight with Shane Mosley where hard inserts were found inside the hand wraps of the former world welterweight champion.
The fight will likely land on the same proposed date in Texas at Dallas Cowboys Stadium where Pacquiao fought on March 13 when he defeated Joshua Clottey in front of more than 50,000 fans.
